Many find other reasons to go with a blower design and those do have a purpose. It shouldn't necessarily "over-heat" but yea too hot for my liking. Not that the GPUs themselves are bad or really a problem per-say, but the cooling is just, well you see what it is for yourself there. That's why we really warn folks to stay away from the Founder Edition back when they using the blower. That's normal for blower-fan-style GTX GPUs. Ok, power limit set to 100% (default), temp limit set to 80C, de-linked, and fan on auto, let's see what happens. It just worried me that out of the box my card hit 83C on a lower end game, my old 260x never even hit that playing Fallout 4, think it hit the mid to upper 60's, and Fallout 4 is a lot more graphically demanding than Red Faction: Guerrilla. Thanks, my R7 260x had different settings in MSI Afterburner than my 1060, for starters power limit was in +/- not percentage, and also there was no linking power limit with temp limit, as a rule of thumb I always have fan speed set to auto. And allow the fans higher RPMs at temps like 70-75*C+ in order to keep it cooler and not hit the 80's area.
Never limit the power, un-link the Chain, set Priority to the Temp Limit and change this to around 85 - 90*Cīut again, modify the Fan Curve so your GPU is not waiting for 60*C+ to hit before the fans ever kick in. I can fix this temporarily by reducing the power limit to 73% which limits the temp to 71C, a much more acceptable operating temperature, but if I shut down my computer the settings revert, is there any way to make these changes stay?Īlso I don't see any performance drops by limiting the power the card can use, I just hate seeing temps above 80C and hearing the fan work so hard for any game, spent $300 on the card, and want it to last a few years, I know that most cards can run up to around 90C before they shut off to prevent damage, but when you go from a R7 260x 2GB playing Red Faction at 1080p in high settings, and no more than 58-63C (stock card settings), to a GTX 1060 6GB and running in on ultra in 1080p and getting 83C (stock card settings) you know something isn't right.
This setting makes any game no matter how old run at 83C, rather the GPU run at 83C, none of my other cards I've owned have gone above 75C under load, even on GPU heavy games in 1080p.

Ok so I have a new PC (about 20 days old) with a GTX 1060 6GB, and I use MSI Afterburner to monitor and control the card, by default the power limit is set to 100% and temp is set to 83C and the two are linked.
